Message from the President

Wrestling is considered as the second oldest game after Athletics in terms of registration. In Nepal, wrestlers were successful in establishing their own organization as Nepal Wrestling Association on 17th July 1987.
But the association couldn’t make expected progress as it was always underestimated in the Nepalese sports arena. Yet, some wrestlers were successful to win a few medals including gold in South Asian tournaments.
I admire all efforts made by the association, players and its leaders for their valuable contributions in the past. After taking charge of the association I vow to move ahead with a new commitment: making Nepali wrestlers visible in global sports tournaments.
As of now, wrestling is confined within the southern plains of Nepal. My target is to introduce this popular game even in hilly and mountain regions of the country. I see the huge potential of this sport in those regions too. Thus, I vow to train wrestlers in every school, village and universities and produce world class professional wrestlers from Nepal.
This promotion of wrestling in the global arena will also create the opportunities to host global wrestling tournaments in Nepal. That will ultimately promote Nepal’s tourism and possibilities of bolstering sports diplomacy among wrestling playing countries.
The association’s affiliation with the United World Wrestling will pave a way to advocate in the field of sustainable development and other pressing issues like global warming and climate change. I commit to closely work with the National Sports Council Nepal and Nepal Olympic Committee.
